Spread Stopped as Fires Damage Two Mid-County Homes
Nov. 17 proved to be a busy day for the Central Fire District, which responded to two house fires. Just after midnight, crews arrived at 2240 Muriel Drive in Live Oak to find the garage of a home fully involved in fire. Two vehicles parked directly in front of the garage were also on fire.

As firefighters attacked through the garage door — which the fire had burned through – a second crew approached from the kitchen to prevent the spread of the fire into the home.

The fire was contained to the garage area, brought under control and extinguished. Much of the home suffered heat and smoke damage, while the garage and two vehicles were completely destroyed.

The occupants escaped safely after discovering the fire.

Equipment that was used for an engraving business that the homeowners operated out of the garage was also destroyed.

Later that morning just before 11 a.m., a neighbor called 9-1-1 to report glass breaking and smoke seen near the roof of a four-unit building at 1475 45th Ave. in Capitola.

An engine company found fire in one of the second floor bedrooms. Central Fire's truck company made its way to the roof and cut a vent hole to release the smoke. Firefighters confirmed that no fire had spread to the common attic area.

Meanwhile, the interior crew extinguished the fire. There was no fire damage to any of the other three units in the complex and no one was home at the apartment involved.

Both fires are considered accidental and no injuries occurred in either blaze.
