Lime Works Plaque Dedicated
A bronze plaque commemorating the Cowell Lime Works Historic District's placement onto the National Register of Historic Places was dedicated on Oct. 30. About 50 people attended the unveiling just inside UCSC's main entrance, including Chancellor George Blumenthal, County Supervisor Neal Coonerty, Santa Cruz Mayor Cynthia Mathews, former Assemblyman John Laird, and representatives from the offices of Rep. Sam Farr and Assemblyman Bill Monning.

Blumenthal said, "The district speaks to the important past of the Cowell Ranch and its place in Santa Cruz history." Farr also entered remarks into the Congressional Record which said, in part, "Historical spaces like these are an example of what makes our community a national leader in the preservation of lands which continue to shape our society."
