Scotts Valley Chamber Announces 2009 Honorees
Award Winners to be Recognized at Annual Dinner on Nov. 14
Woman of the year Mary Dettle is being honored for her work in local education. A fifth grade teacher at Vine Hill Elementary School, she helps her students excel in science and sponsors the Vine Hill Fifth Grade Service Club to teach children community involvement. She has served on the city's arts commission.

Man of the year Jim Reed is being recognized for his many efforts to better the community. The city's current vice mayor, he also volunteers at Vine Hill Elementary and coaches Little League.

Business of the year honors go to Jesse and Susan Flippen's Jesse Gabriel Photography. The Flippens have supported the Fallen Officer Foundation, The Scotts Valley Art & Wine Festival, Music in Skypark and more.

Annika Gustafsson will receive the Sharemi Ullestad Memorial youth of the year award in recognition of her continuous community service.

The Scotts Valley Unified School District PTAs earned organization of the year for supporting the four schools.

BCI Builders won the beautification of Scotts Valley award for its design and construction of the Tree Circus Center.
