Loma Fire Contained
Wildfire again showed its power in Santa Cruz County one week after fire season was officially declared to be over, scorching 485 acres that had been soaked by recent rains and burned in the prior year's Summit Fire.

The blaze is fully contained and all evacuations have been lifted. It started about 3 a.m. on Oct. 25, and at the peak, 60 homes faced mandatory evacuation. About 250 in the Ormsby Cutoff and Eureka Canyon area were threatened.

A trailer and two outbuildings were destroyed.

The cause remains under investigation, but officials confirmed that controlled burning had recently taken place in the area. Several days of high winds contributed to concerns as nearly 1,500 firefighters converged to fight the blaze. Winds had calmed by Oct. 29, but Cal Fire had not yet projected when the fire would be fully controlled.
