Vandalism to Vehicle
A car owner came out on a recent morning to find that her vehicle had been vandalized overnight.
Mustard had been poured into the gas tank and squirted onto the door handles and trunk. Two locks had been glued and silly string sprayed all over the vehicle.

Theft
A store employee attempted to contact a white male juvenile who left Safeway with two bottles of alcohol, but the suspect fled.
However, video surveillance obtained a good face shot of the suspect and a Scotts Valley Police officer is attempting to identify the suspect by contacting local schools and showing the photo.

Someone stole 200 feet of half-inch copper piping from the rooftop of a business. The loss is valued at $1,500.

Grand Theft
Capitola Police arrested two women in a conspiracy to commit grand theft at a Capitola Mall department store. Brenda Guerrero, age 20, and Christine E. Krynak, age 25, were arrested on both charges and booked into county jail.

Battery
A 16-year-old male reported that he was attacked by three Hispanic males who had been driving a white car, possibly a Mercedes or Cadillac, according to Sgt. Greg Lansdowne.
The suspects punched, kicked and held the victim down. He also recalled them saying they were "Westside chicos" who wanted to know who killed their "homie." The victim eventually escaped after hitting one of his assailants.

Domestic Battery
Scotts Valley Police arrested and jailed a 63-year-old man after he allegedly threw a victim to the ground repeatedly in a domestic dispute.
He broke the phone when she first attempted to call 9-1-1, but she was later able to lock herself in a bedroom and call for help on another phone. He was charged with battery of a spouse or cohabitant and damaging a communication device.

Parole Violations
Capitola Police responded to the report of a gang fight near the loading dock of Macy's and found parolee Saied Sohrabi, age 39. He struggled with officers, who conducted a search of his vehicle and found narcotics paraphernalia. He was charged with parole violations, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

Battery
Sheriff's deputies responded to a complaint by a woman that another woman with whom she had ongoing issues had shoved her at the Brookdale Inn. When law enforcement located Laura Sultan, age 47 of Brookdale, she appeared to be intoxicated and resisted the deputy when approached, according to Sgt. Greg Lansdowne. She was charged with battery, obstructing an officer and public drunkenness.

Injury of Spouse, Child
A witness reported seeing a Capitola couple fighting while the man held their one-year-old child. According to police reports, when the woman attempted to slap the man, he hit and kicked her, pushing her down stairs when she continued to fight, all the time holding the crying child. He was arrested and charged with willful cruelty to a child and inflicting injury on a spouse or cohabitant.

Suspected Child Abduction
What appeared at first to be a child abduction turned out to be a case of bad judgment and child endangerment. Patrons at the Santa Cruz flea market reported that a child had been placed in the trunk of a green Honda, prompting a county-wide alert.
The CHP located and stopped the vehicle on southbound Highway 1 and found a seven-year-old girl in the trunk of the car, driven by her grandfather with her father. The pair had hidden the child in the trunk to avoid fees when they entered the market (although children under 12 are free). She apparently asked if she could ride home in the trunk, which the family members permitted. Federico Flores, age 56, and Rodrigo Flores, age 31, both of Salinas, were cited and released.

Sheriff's investigators had been looking for a man wanted on several warrants and tracked him to his workplace in Felton. Taric A. Mekkoudi, age 22 of Live Oak, was taken into custody on four outstanding warrants.

A young woman apparently recognized a woman whom she believed had defamed a family member, according to police reports. The young woman walked into a store, swore at the victim, slapped her in the face and walked out. The 50-year-old victim called police, who located Kaeliann F. Hulett, age 19 of Watsonville, and charged her with battery.

Arrests in Thefts from Vehicles
Three suspects in a rash of thefts from unlocked vehicles in the Pasatiempo neighborhood were arrested at a motel in Santa Cruz by Santa Cruz Police and linked to the crimes by a sheriff's deputy. The deputy learned of the suspects' Oct. 15 arrest and recognized that items recovered included some from the Pasatiempo crimes. Members of the Sheriff's Office had just attended a homeowners' association safety meeting. Stolen property also appeared to come from Scotts Valley, Capitola, Aptos and Santa Cruz. Arrested were Ryan J. Garrett, age 22 of Aptos, Nicholas P. Foster, age 35 of Santa Cruz, and Paul G. Simms, age 28 of Santa Cruz. Foster and Simms were arrested on outstanding warrants, while Garrett was charged with possession of stolen property and possession of a deadly weapon. Both law enforcement agencies are continuing the investigation and anticipate more charges will be filed.
