Davenport to See Long-Delayed Water Quality Upgrade
Construction began on Oct. 7 to improve a water treatment facility in Davenport, after efforts to upgrade the facility had met with frustration for the last eight years. Various local dignitaries and their representatives were among the estimated crowd of 40 at the groundbreaking ceremony.

The Davenport County Sanitation District first sought funding for the project back in 2001, but was told it did not qualify as a low income area. Further delays resulted from changing state water quality requirements and the need for a coastal permit. Funding was finally made available in June under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Cost of the project is estimated to be $1.62 million, with completion estimated by June 2010.
